Fall 2020 Book Pickup: Home

Instructions and information on requesting library materials during the fall 2020 semester.

Fall 2020 Materials Circulation

At this time, book circulation is only available to PTS faculty, staff, and students. Walk-in checkout of books in the fall semester will be limited to course reserves only. All other circulating books and AV materials must be requested ahead, and will be pulled by staff and made available for pickup in the library lobby on a bi-weekly basis. All print materials will undergo a 3-day quarantine period between patrons. Please read below for instructions and information on obtaining books, course reserves, and print journal articles. Questions? Contact apope@pts.edu.

Journal and Reference Scans

  • At this time our print journal collection and reference collection are only accessible to library staff. PTS students, faculty, and staff can request PDF scans of print journal articles and limited sections of reference books.
  • Use the reference@pts.edu email to submit scanning requests. Please be specific and accurate in your citation information to ensure that you receive the appropriate materials.
  • Scans will be delivered electronically via email.
  • The amount that can be scanned from a given reference book is limited by copyright law. A librarian will contact you if your request cannot be filled because of copyright limitations.

Requesting Books and Other Materials

  • Book checkout will occur twice weekly on Mondays and Thursdays. Mondays requests will be available by 4 p.m. and Thursdays by 11 a.m. Requested books will be in the library lobby in paper bags labeled by name. Books do not have to be picked up on the day they become available. They will remain on the lobby pickup table for seven days. You will need your PTS ID to badge in to the building. See the library calendar for hours of operation.
  • All requests for materials must be emailed to reference@pts.edu by 8 a.m. on the desired pickup day. Requests made after 8 a.m. will roll over to the next checkout day’s queue. Please include correct title and author information in your request so we can ensure you get the right materials.
  • A maximum of 10 items may be requested per checkout day. Requests can be placed for circulating AV materials (CDs, DVDs, etc.) as well as books from the stacks and course reserve books.
  • Check the library catalog at http://innovative.pts.edu/search~S0 to check the status of the item you want. Titles that can be requested will have the status "AVAILABLE" or "RECENTLY RETURNED - QUARANTINED". Requests for titles with the status "CHECKED OUT" or "LIB USE ONLY" will not be filled.
  • All books should be returned via the interior or exterior library books drops. These drops will be emptied on a staggered schedule to facilitate our quarantining procedures.  As such, if a book is returned on the day it is due and it sits in the drop for a day or two, you may receive an overdue notice or have daily fines assessed. These fines will be expunged once the item is checked in without any action required by the borrower.

Course Reserves

  • Course reserve books can be checked out at the library front desk or via the book request procedure detailed in Requesting Books and Other Materials. All course reserves will be due back in 3 days and quarantined between patrons.
  • To see the titles on reserve for a given class, visit the library catalog and select one of the Course Reserves options from the dropdown menu that defaults to Keyword. The "By Course" option uses the course number, i.e. CH 110.
  • Course reserve titles with the status "AVAILABLE" can be checked out at the front desk between 11 a.m. and 10 p.m. Mondays and 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. all other weekdays or requested via the book pickup procedure.
  • Course reserve titles with the status "RECENTLY RETURNED - QUARANTINED" are in quarantine and cannot be checked out at the front desk, but can be requested via the book request procedure detailed in Requesting Books and Other Materials, as they will be timed to exit quarantine on the next book pickup day.
