Finding Journals: Home

How to Find a Specific Journal

On the library's webpage, select the Research tab and then Find Journal Titles. If you are off-campus, you will be required to login in with your last name and PTS barcode.

1.  Enter the journal title into the search box

*If you know the ISSN, you can also select "ISSN" from the drop down menu instead of "Title"

2.  Click the magnifying glass icon or select a title from the list that pre-populates

3.  If the library has access to the journal, the title will appear in the results list with the access options. If the library doesn't have access, you will receive a no results message.

4.  One or more access options could be available to you (example below):

A. Amsterdam University Press Journals - indicates that you have access on the publisher's website from 1/1/1980 to the present

B. ATLA Religion Database with ATLASerials Plus - indicates you have access from 1/1/1949-12/31/2024 through this database

 C. Barbour Library Electronic Journals - indicates you have electronic access from 1/1/1980 to the present

D. Library Catalog (Print Materials) - indicates the library owns it in print. To view what print access you have available to you, click the link

Example: In the case above, if you are looking for an article in NTT: Journal for Theology and the Study of Religion from 2025, you'd want to use the Amsterdam link, Barbour Library Electronic Journals link, or check the library's catalog for print holdings.

5.  For online access, you will see a variety of screens depending on where you accessing the journal

a. For online, it's easier if you can locate a list of years or volumes. Then you select the year/volume/issue number to access a list of all articles in that particular issue.

b. For print holdings, see the example below:

*If you need more help with off-campus access, check out the Remote Access: Library Account & Databases guide.

Find Journal Titles

When to Use

  • If you are looking for a specific journal title or have an ISSN
  • You have a citation that includes the journal title

What if the library doesn't have the journal you need?

Barbour Library doesn't have access to every journal available or maybe we do but not have the right year you are looking for. Don't worry! Needed items can almost always be obtained through Interlibrary Loan (ILL). To request an item through ILL, you may either:

  • Submit a request form on the library webpage
  • Email Mark Russell, our ILL Librarian
  • Stop in to the library to fill out a request at the circulation desk or ask for assistance
