Library Orientation: Home

Whether you're a new student, or a not-so-new student unsure about library resources and services, the library orientation guide is here to help you get started.

Due to coronavirus precautions, most library operations and all but the 24/7 space will be unavailable until further notice. Books are available to PTS students, faculty, and staff through a twice-weekly (Mondays and Thursdays) request-ahead pickup service in the library lobby. Requests for books should be submitted via email at reference@pts.eduRequests should be submitted by 9 a.m. on Monday or Thursday. All books should be returned through the outdoor book drop or the front desk book drop.

Only those who receive a green checkmark from the LiveSafe app health check may come to campus. To gain entry to the lobby for book pickup or to use the computer lab or printer, swipe your OneCard badge on the post outside the library doors. Feel free to use the spaces in the 24/7 area, and please follow these guidelines:

  • - social distancing of at least 3 to 6 feet is encouraged
  • - masks are required in the library for all those who are unvaccinated
  • - groups in the library may not exceed 20 people

Off Campus Access

If you are unsure of how to access material in our digital collections when not on campus, see the Remote Access LibGuide for more information. Off-campus accessibility is only provided to PTS students, faculty, and staff, with the exception of ATLAS for Alums. When entering your last name to log in for electronic access, omit hyphens, apostrophes, and spaces. If you encounter problems with remote access, call the circulation desk during library hours at 412-924-1354, or email Carrie Carter, Mark Russell, Tisha Woo, or

Chat Reference Hours

Visit the Library FAQs page for chat reference. The chat reference window is the 'Ask Us' box on the right hand side of the page (or the bottom of the page in  mobile view). Librarians will be manning that window on the following schedule:

Tuesday - Thursday

2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Computers and Copying/Printing

  • The computer lab will be available to PTS students, faculty, and staff for quick instances of use. Some computers will have an Out of Order sign to indicate that they should not be used to achieve appropriate social distancing in the lab space if multiple persons are allowed in the lab space.
  • WiFi is available throughout the building and does not require a password. The network is PTS_Wireless.
  • The Xerox copier/printers in the computer lab and on the first floor near the elevator will be available for use. Copies and prints are free, and there is also an option to scan to email.
